Dental Implants in Roselle, IL
If you are missing one or more teeth and are looking for a reliable, long term tooth replacement option, then dental implants are a great choice.
If you go a while with a missing tooth then you will begin to learn the serious physical and mental consequences of living with missing teeth.
A missing tooth will change the way you look, smile, eat, and can even change the way you talk. Most importantly, it can have a big impact on your confidence.
A dental implant can sound scary, especially for people that are not fans of the dentist office. However, the replacement process may not be as bad as you think. In fact, if a missing tooth is impacting your personal, professional, and social life, then an implant could be one of the best long term investments you could make. You can’t put a price on confidence and peace of mind, and an implant will help with both.
What is a Dental Implant?
An implant is a titanium post that is inserted into the jaw, where your tooth roots used to be. If you look at the picture on this page, you will see the parts of a dental implant, including the post and where it’s inserted in the jaw. After the post is installed it will begin to osseointegrate with your jaw bone, creating a solid foundation for your tooth. When the healing is done then the post is covered by a crown or denture. Together, the dental implant with the crown or denture will look, feel, act, and be as strong as a real tooth.
1st Family Dental offers a variety of implant options to restore your smile, and your confidence, in no time.
Implant in a Day
The healing process is the longest part of the dental implant process, which can take up to a few months. At our Roselle IL office, we are excited to be able to offer an “Implant in a Day” service that’s similar to the traditional procedure, but includes the placement of a temporary crown over the implant so you can leave the office without a hole where your tooth once was. The temporary crown will look like a tooth but will not be as polished or pretty as your permanent crown.
Once your permanent crown is finished being made at the lab, and your implant has fully healed, then we’ll schedule a follow up appointment to swap out the temporary crown for the permanent one. Your mouth should already be used to the feeling of a crown, making for a smooth transition.
Implants with a Fixed Denture (Overdentures)
If you are missing many teeth, a combination or dental implants and overdentures are typically a great option. Not only do the implants help avoid some of the long term downsides of dentures, the process is also typically faster and less expensive than if you were to replace all missing teeth exclusively with implants. It’s a win-win on many fronts.
Unlike regular dentures, overdentures are connected to the implants which holds the fixed denture in place. This prevents the slipping that’s typically involved with dentures, making for a more comfortable and “stable” fit.
A big benefit of implant overdentures is that it will help retain the shape and structure of your jaw bone. The loss of jaw integrity is a common problem among regular denture wearers, but not with overdentures since the implant connects to the jaw, acting like real teeth roots.
